Thank you, as always, for supporting us in this journey to waste less and appreciate more! If you are interested in trying a bag of Woollets™ you can find those here or stop by our shop in Argyle. If you are a farmer and would like to know more, please visit the Shepherds Corner of our website for details. We also buy wool from farmers for a fair price and create Woollets™ for our climate conscious consumers. They drop off or send us their raw wool, we shred it and pelletize it and send it back to the farmer for their use or resale. Just as we do with our naturally tanned sheepskin, we are now offering a pelleting service to our farmers. If you have been following the Driftless Tannery, you know how much we hate to see any part of these amazing animals go to waste. One of the biggest buyers of wool in the Midwest just closed their doors in June leaving many farmers struggling to find a place, other than the landfill, for all their wool. We hear all the time about the lack of a market for raw wool. Why did we start this sister business? Because every day we work with shepherds across the country to help them add value to their farms. You can read all about this new product on our website. As the pellets break down in the soil, over the course of a year, they release nutrients and create space that aerates the soil. Wool pellets hold moisture in the soil and makes it bioavailable to plants when they need it. Wool naturally contains many macro and micronutrients and wool is fully biodegradable. We have joined forces with Elaine Becker and Karen Mayhew to create Driftless Woollets™ a climate friendly, sustainable soil additive made from 100% wool that is heat pelletized for horticultural use.
